One thing that caught my attention from Chris’ lecture today was the idea of us being innately plotted into a certain tradition and environment. He used the analogy of how a fish never questions or even notices the existence of water despite playing a critical role in their life.


I made a quick sketch of a guy looking at a fish tank where he is thinking this exact thought, not realizing he himself is part of a portrait that he is unaware of as he is being observed by something else. The man in the foreground is then being watched over by us. This was also inspired by a painting Chris showed of a man being part of a painting he was observing.
 

I think the concept is very interesting of how we use softwares (tools) that have been molded around the generations of knowledge we've gathered from progenies within our discipline (tradition) that we've already inscribed ourselves into a particular culture without us even realizing.
