1.The Tale of The Princess Kaguya
The Tale of The Princess Kaguya is a Japanese animate directed by Isao Takahata in 2013 which the story is from Japanese folklore "The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter".
From the aesthetic point of view, it incorporates the blank space technique of Chinese landscape painting, Japanese classic bird and beast painting, and modern watercolour depiction. The lines are full of charm, which changes according to the character's mood, which is a bit "magic" and expressive. In my impression, it is one of the most beautiful works in Ghibli animation.
The aesthetic aspect is my favourite part. I also want to draw a lesson from some expressions on the screen to help my own work.
2.Overcomer Animated Short
An animation worked by Hannah Grace(2016). The story shows how to compromise with self is a matter.
I saw this experimental animation by accident and it caught my eyes. The author uses metaphor to express the inner world of herself. This project’s theme is very classic but also very modern which are anxiety and depression. It is a common problem for everyone and many animators try for this theme.
It is not a kind of delicate project in itself. However, I personally think the theme and metaphor are great. Besides, Hannah uses as many as detail scene to connect emotion which is good.
