This week I hope to learn some camera language about the transition through related work. So I re-viewed several works of animation director Kon Satoshi. Each of his animations reflects the deep knowledge of a shooting. Those works include ‘Perfect Blue‘、‘Paprika’ and ‘Magnetic Rose’.
In order to express the complex and mysterious spiritual world of people, Kon Satoshi always implies the creative method of the "stream of consciousness". He often switched the cameras according to the protagonist's psychological activities, arbitrarily breaking the past and present, dream and reality, illusion and real-time and space.
From those work, I found he uses the similarity of movements to make transitions. For example, at the beginning of "The House of Weed", Kon used the similarity of actions many times to switch between reality and the flashback of hemp. On the subway, listening to music while dancing, the fluffy hands turned into flicks that performed the same dance moves at the concert; the flicks turned on the stage were flicked, and turned into flicks turned on the market when buying food in the supermarket. Turned back and back to the unmarked, turned to the unmarked on the TV screen fell on the bed. In the same way, he will also use the similarity of sound, content and psychology to make transitions.
I will learn from his work and the skills of transition into my folio animatic. The transition of similarity is already a very common editing technique. I can use it in animation to express the cascading of real and unreal, and the random flow of human consciousness.
