Mind Maps for possible studio two projects

Possible Projects

#1 Bird Exploration Game  - Explore a large environment as a bird

The idea would be that you could fly around and explore this environment as a bird. Explore rational of slow gaming
Having all feedback to the player through Characters and environment rather than UI

eg. if the bird has less energy the animation shows it rather than having a UI bar element

Finished product would only be small slice of world ..  If the world loops around (like a real planet) can have smaller area  with same feeling ?

Monuments througout landscape let you rest/save

Flying higher Lets you see more but takes more energy

flying low restitred FOV but less energy used

can walk on ground to explore/ eat /rest

RATIONALE – why are you doing what you are doing?

Want to Examine slow gaming through exploration.

How much does environment give to the game world ?

What is smallest amount of UI you can have. Can the world and characters itself tell this information

CONTEXT – who else is doing what you are doing?

ThatGameCompany  - flower, Journey

Novatrade \Appolsa Interactive – Ecco the dolphin

Games & Interactive Media  , Slow gaming movement

METHODS

Plan on paper the environment that will feature

Using unity create tools needed for world buildings

Model temp assets to create building blocks

Animate character(s). get player feedback

OUTCOMES

Playable Demo of the game, showing at least one of the characters and environments that you will be able to explore.

Include – minimal HUD or UI, Being able to go from high overworld point of view to being low

The final project will be a digital distributable demo of the game with one environment that the user can navigate around (one character , sound music)

Resolve what elements from traditional game are needed  HUD ? levels ? lives score?

#2
 3d Adventure game

RATIONALE

Are Adventure games still relavent

How can you better integrate the use of puzzles in games ( Goat puzzle Broken Sword) ,Schism

CONTEXT – who else is doing what you are doing?

Professor Layton series, Cyan Worlds (Myst, Riven), Broken Sword , Dream Fall

in the field of Digital Games.  Brain Training , Cognitive therapy

METHODS

Plan on paper the layout and puzzles that will feature in the demo

Using unity create sub systems for the game

Model temp assets to create building blocks

Swap out assets with finished versions, refine and get others to test

OUTCOMES –

The end result will be a vertical slice of the finished game fully completed gameplay consisting of a couple of scene

The final submission would be an installable complete demo version of the game (including sound, music ,animation)

Questions about intergration  of congetive theory and learning in games what works

#3 Trailer for Animation

RATIONALE

Exploring the use of non-conventional colour in aniamtions

Do we understand what objects are through movement alone

CONTEXT – who else is doing what you are doing?

Machinma

Schindlers’s list, Reniscanne (2006) , NPR , Anna (quake 3 engine)

METHODS

Create Storyboard and mood boards for scenes

Colour pallet’s selected from unrelated photo or scenes  ie fire’s colour comes from a image of a world map.  The colour of the ocean comes from a train

Once the series of mood board background test is done a block out of the animation would be complete using vertices colours

OUTCOMES –

30 – 1:30 trailer for an animation featuring unique use of colour representation

Fully rendered with sound and audio  resolution at least HD
