Week 4
Rationale
I have been developing my inquiry question through consultations. I think it would be best to incorporate metamorphosis in my research question, and address the way my project incorporates the connotation of the cockroach. The animal aspects of the characters utilise the unspoken visual language of a cockroach. Hence, I am thinking the next evolution of my research enquiry is: “How can ‘metamorphosis’ in 2D animation, combined with the connotations of different animals, communicate complex metaphors about identity?”
This week I also finalised my animatic with consultation advice, and started planning out my production schedule. One of the main cuts I made was changing the exchange the cockroach boy has with the bird girl, to keep the tone more constant.
Methods
The edits I made to the animatic were made with the advice I received through consultation. First I edited out the scene where the cockroach pulls off his arm, since it disrupted the narrative structure. Then I had to remedy the transition into the ending of the film, so I added the anticipation movement before the cockroach runs away.
