Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

Context:

I will be taking my first mindmap idea to work considering that it is one of the most doable project. I wanted to create a digital art by playing with particles and visual cues.
The main theme of the project is creating particle flows that matches according to wind currents in each seasons.

Since each seasons have a different wind current, I want to visualise those wind current through particle simulation.

Rationale:

Digital artists like Maxim Zhestkov and Refik Anadol uses particle simulations in their digital art. One of their similarities are using particle simulation to create solid objects like Refik Anadol's piece at NGV Triennial. I'm very inspired by both of their work and I wanted to create my own form of particle simulation with my own concept.

The question that I ask for myself is: How do I visualise seasonal wind current through particle simulation?

There are many ways to visualise certain concept. I feel like I just need to find a right imagination and creative thinking on how to visualise my concept.
I've recently thought about visualising through visual cues like:

Winter = Blue
Summer = Yellow
Autumn = Red / Brown
Spring = Green

and use these colours to adapt and implement the environment.

I've attached an experimental concept art I made below. Basically, this is how I imagined it would be.

Methods:

Pre-Production

  • Conceptualising (sketching and creative thinking)
  • Creating moodboard and color palette
  • Lighting planning
  • Research (wind currents and how to visualise it)

Production/Post-Production

  • Creating wind physics that matches seasonal wind currents
  • Environment creation (Modelling, materials, etc..)
  • Filming and rendering.
  • Finalising through after effects if needed.

Semester plan:

Week 1: Conceptualising and Mind mapping
Week 2: Research and experimenting with wind physics in blender
Week 3: Creating 4 simulations through wind physics from week 2
Week 4: Begin modeling environment
Week 5: Materials and Lighting and finalising models.
Week 6-12: Revisions and finishing touches.

Outcomes:

A full 1-2 minutes video showcasing the 4 different animations

or

4 15-30 seconds videos showcasing each animations.
