RATIONALE-WHY are you doing what you are doing?

Current Issues:

  • Many young people rarely bother to learn about Buddhism.
  • Most of the Buddhist followers are over 40 years old.

1. Buddhist music is very slow and very different from current popular music. It does not attract young people.

2. Political reasons. Socialism is atheism

3. Buddhist scriptures are obscure and hard to be understood.

4. Buddhism needs some life experience to be better understood.

So I want to create a Motion Graphics Animation to promote Buddhism among young people.

Music: I want to create a fast-paced Buddhist music by incorporating sounds of Buddhist elements (bell ringing, chanting, wooden fish sound, etc.) to meet the current trend.

Separate software learning for music production is required. Capture sounds from the temple.

Animation: 2D and 3D will be combined in Motion Graphics Animation.

Challenges: For the selection of the style. Whether to make a cartoon style, oriented to a younger crowd. Or follow the usual serious and formal style of Buddhism.

CONTEXT  WHO else is doing what you are doing?

The more famous Motion Graphics Animation studio is MOGE studio, this studio mainly does more exaggerated and complex deformation. One of the more famous works is the World Cup 2018 advertising campaign. This animation combines frame-by-frame and three-dimensional, plus fluid deformation animation, to show the shock and lively World Cup. (http://moge.tv/2018/07/24/world-cup-2018-变形篇/ )

I am going to create 3D Buddha and temple scenes to be incorporated into the mg animation.

Cogito is a creator in the religious science genre. His work will use simple cartoon pictures video or animation to explain the complex and deep history of each religion. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNdgT6VCuu0)

Pascu and Rodri have created an animation about the Monkey King of Chinese mythology. The experience of the Monkey King is presented in a witty and humorous way (images and music). (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdoNlV9GH6E)

METHODS – HOW will you do what you are doing?

  • 1. First, we will conduct a systematic research on the current audience of Buddhism. Analyze the attitude and understanding of young people towards Buddhism.
  • 2. Collect sounds related to Buddhism. (bell ringing, chanting, wooden fish sound, etc.)
  • 3. Produce new Buddhist music with music software.
  • 4. Draw the corresponding picture according to the sound and make a sub-mirror. Need to mark out the animation in the sub-mirror.
  • 5. Use AE, combined with AI to produce mg animation.
  • 6. Part of the picture can try to integrate the 3D model to increase the sense of picture.
  • 7. My current mastery of AE is not high enough to support me to make a complete mg animation. So I need to keep learning new effects and new plugins, so as to complete a richer animation.
  • 8. Add sound effects, and finally synthesize and export

OUTCOMES – WHAT are the tangible objects that must be made?

A 1-2 minute mg animation. The overall animation is two-dimensional, but will add three-dimensional items according to the plot.

Significance:

In terms of technology, master AE software more deeply. At the same time, try to integrate 3D items into 2D images to create a strong impact. Learn to use motion graphics to explain the content of the plot.

Try to make my own music for the first time.
