For this test I used TVPaint, which has a feature that allows you to draw while capturing live. This can be used to create an animated stroke effect or to capture drawings frame by frame.
I first tested out using a piece of music that had each instrument split out, and having a person live draw while listening to a specific instrument each. I asked each ‘actor’ to draw what they were hearing. Afterwards I composited each animation together.
