Abstract
Vehicle customisation is a significant feature of racing video games (Forza Motorsport 6, 2015; Need for Speed, 2010; Racing 2021). Although popular, many systems have remained similar in the last decade generally involving the player selecting from real-world conventional designed cars, many of which lack distinctiveness.

Radioactive Rev was developed in response. Currently in its alpha build, this game aims to offer control and possibilities to the player in customising its vehicles. The game presents the player with a range of hybrid animal and motor objects and parts that can be assembled and customised in various ways, allowing the player to construct and modify inventive and unusual vehicles.

Radioactive Rev attempts to bring not only a novel experience but also player flexibility and creativity through its vehicle customisation system. Additionally, it also aims to broaden the generic genre of vehicle customisation that is currently in video games.

Project Versions in Aiming to Find a Creative Builder Outcome
Radioactive Rev initiated from different concepts and theories to reach its current form. Version 1 of the development process was to test original theories generated from concepts I had created.

Prototype Version 1

Prototype Version 1 depicts giving the user the power to adjust the verticality of the vehicle by replicating the body. This system would be represented in the project if it is further developed. It would be established in the parameters tab. This section would allow the user to adjust how many tires they want on the vehicle, as well as to tweak where parts are located, and the overall width and height of the vehicle.

Prototype Version 1.5

Prototype Version 1.5 may remind someone of the traditional board game, Connect Four (H. Wexler, N. Strongin, 2974). This gives the player the flexibility to place components where they please. However, the inventions can get a lot more unusual, this amount of choice would make gameplay relatively unplayable, as the world would have to be designed for the biggest vehicle as well as work for the smallest one too.

Prototype Version 2

Prototype Version 2 aimed to restrict the player a little bit more from the previous version, to make the game playable. There was a big focus on engagement by using camera animations to help the player focus. It also allowed the user to have an asymmetric vehicle.

Additional side note
This project was very ambitious for me, especially with my very limited coding knowledge initially. I had to 'climb a mountain' to get to this point. I am happy with its Alpha version.

In Development

Some features of Radioactive Rev are still in development. Here is a list of those elements and what they are supposed to do.

Parameters – Allow the user to customise the finer details. This includes how many tires they want on the vehicle, the exact placement of spoilers and other parts, and the width and height of the overall vehicle.

Part Builder – Essentially, this feature is a smaller version of the vehicle builder. The player can create parts by adding, removing, and swapping. The part builder will also force strict guidelines such as static object width, so it is compatible with the main game. The user will then be able to use the custom part in the main vehicle builder.

Details - This feature works like the color feature does in the build, the user is able to select a detail map (generally a normal map) and swap them per section.

Save - This feature allows the player to save the vehicle they built as a pre-set and is then able to be loaded and used.

Test Drive - The user can test drive the vehicle.

Name – Based on the parts selected, a random name will generate. For example, if you choose the chicken head, the name may include “bawk bawk” or “chicken”.

Game – If I were to get funding or pursue this project even further, I would add the main game, so players can use their creations in action.
