Chosen Binary / Duality / Opposite: shadow/light & up/down

Homework Task:

Briefly discusses your choice of opposites/binaries in relation to your project.

The two opposite / binary I chose were light/shadow & up/down. I chose this one because light and shadow are always an important element in animation. They can usually set off the atmosphere of the work, and in animation about dance, light and shadow can drive the feelings of the characters. I chose up down because I wanted to add more elements and possibilities to the animation, and the movement of the positions would make the animation richer.

What route you chose A or B? and why?

I choose A because I will use animation as the final project. Option A provides more possibilities and practice for my project.

Describe your thinking behind your approach to the experiments you conducted.

When I think of light and shadow, the first thing that comes to mind is the shadow under people's feet in the dark environment. For up and down, I think about the direction of birds when they fly, so I choose birds as the theme of the second animation. The most difficult part for me is how to combine the two parts properly. I think the shadow and are often bound, and the bird is a symbol of freedom. When the shadow breaks free, it becomes a bird and flies into the sky.

Reflect on the outcome pieces.

Although this animation is a bit short, I am satisfied with the overall presentation. And I think I intuitively and correctly expressed the two sets of keywords I selected. For the metamorphosis part, I think it can be more detailed. My drawing is a bit simpler, and I will expand more possibilities on this basis in the future.

Is there any way your exercise might feed into your larger studio project or inspire an aspect of it?

Of course. In the animation I will make about dance moves. I will combine light and shadow to set off the atmosphere in the animation and add more details about light and shadow. In the animation test I have done, the position of the dance moves is unchanged, and I put the change of the up and down position into the future animation test. And through this exercise, I saw the possibility between two completely different objects, which can make the work unique through more associations.
