[IOL] Week 7 :: Metamophosis (Class task // Home work)

Home work task Happy Vs.Sad

Briefly discusses your choice of opposites/binaries in relation to your project.

In this activity, I have 2 reason that why i chose this “Happy&Sad” route.

Firstly, Happy and Sad are not complex emotions and appropriate for minor work because they are common emotions, so they don’t have to spend a large amount of time and energy for this work, for instance I use only 3-5 frame for each animation and make them to be a loop animation, so with this condition I can be able to minimize the scale of work and make them efficient with a little amount of time.

Secondly,I literally want to practice the process how character express and change their emotion, so I decide to use the main character that I decide to use in this folio 2 for making a little experiment about the expression on this character.

What route you chose A or B? And why?

I decide to choose option A because this option will relate with my animation final project, so this might be a good chance for me to grab it to open the opportunity to practice my animation skills.

Describe your thinking behind your approach to the experiments you conducted

The first impression when I get in touch with common emotions like “Happy&Sad” and metamorphosis topic, all of these remind me the morphing technique which commonly in western style animation, so I literally want to try this morphing technique as a connection between Happy&Sad emotions. In my idea the main problems is I do not understand how do they work, so that will difficult for me to make them smooth and efficiently.

Reflect on the outcome pieces.

I have done some investigation and researching through Youtube and Pixiv and with this investigation i receive many example and knowledge that help me to understand in the processing about morphing technique. After i follow their method and try to combine my knowledge with them, i was literally satisfied with the result.

Is there any way your exercise might feed into your larger studio project or inspire an aspect of it?

Of course they are, my major project is depend in the 2d animation that focus in to movement of main character, so this exercise is really useful for me in the term of improving the efficiency of movement.
