Week 11 - Stillness

꒰ method ꒱

For the class exercise in stillness, I created 3 short animated sequences with the character, environment and both combined and iterated it around the idea of stillness. Still moments in my animation always comes before the storm,  the fish moving calmly in the back of the train before the water engulfs the inside and my character standing before a whole sea under the crossing before she gets swept away.

I decided to play with different variations of this scene for this exercise with different points of interest.

꒰ result / discussion  ꒱

First, I started with animating fish moving forward against a current that's moving backwards.  Next, I tried to clip this animation to a window or fishtank of sorts and gave the fish more of a curve to their swimming path. Then I animated fish swimming under the crossing.  I tried both the forward-moving and curve path animations but finally settled on a parallax type movement that would show depth.

Environment animations done, I did different profiles of the girl with just her hair moving so that it would contribute more to the still feel of these animations. Finally, I tried different combinations of the character and the environment with differing levels of success at reaching the elusive feeling of stillness.
