Illusion of Life Week 1
What moves in my work?
Aim
As I will be using IOL as a platform to explore my studio project, and to experiment, tinker elements of the studio project, this week, I brainstormed about what moves in my work and how that impacts my practice. This week was about understanding our studio project better and understanding the moving elements better.
Method
In order to understand the moving portions of the studio project, I began with opening the studio story outline that I have set for the studio work and going through the storyline in more detail. As I had already thought a bit about camera angles, directions and how movements will take place, I began with jotting down everything I had in mind. I started with creating a very rough storyboard with what I had in my mind, just to understand the movement and the flow of movement of various things.
Furthermore, I separated all the moving elements into characters, environments and props on a separate document in order to understand them more specifically. I also mind mapped about what moves, in what ways it moves and how it is going to ultimately impact my practice of the studio work.
Result
As a result of the whole activity, I created a rough storyboard, and two various mind map documents which told about the movement of various elements in my studio practice and also how the movements impact my work.
The activity and the result helped me understand movement better and also helped me bring what was in my mind, on the paper.
Reflection
Doing this activity, made me realise that motion is the most important element in any animation, or game and understanding that motion, refining it and iterating the practice are integral to any practice. It also helped me understand that breaking down any concept into various portions is very crucial in order to understand the idea better.
