Played around with Tinkercad today at a workshop run by the local library. With no experience in 3D modelling, Tinkercad was the perfect software for beginners. We made a simple gear shift using the standard 3D shapes that came with Tinkercad.
Pros:
- Extremely easy to use, and had some great tutorials that guide you through the tools
- All web-based and free!
- Visual interface - no coding involved
- Workplane and ruler tools are handy
- Can export as .obj to import into other 3D programs like Unity
- Can export as .stl for 3D printing
- Access to a library of models made by other users
Cons:
- Limited customisation of shapes (you can't adjust vertices, only the overall shape) - it is a very basic tool for beginners
- Must be connected to the Internet (cloud-based)
