Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

Theme
Design for your partner

Context
For this first class, we had to design something interactive and tangible based on our partner needs. I worked with Maddy, who recently lost her cat and miss her very much.

Because she likes video games where she can always win or play by herself, tt first at though about making a video game where she needed to find the cat while nature was attacking her (rocks, trees..).
But because she likes weird and a bit dark stuff, I thought that maybe the video game could be about the player (maddy) is the cat, and need to explore some worlds, while some cat robots try to take her heart to become real.

After digging a little bit more about what she likes, she told me she likes Tamagotchis, so after some ideas, I decided to make a Robot cat, who has exactly the same habits, size, and color, like the one she lost. And she could feed him and take care of him through an app.

Method
With some clay and other materials, I created the prototype of the cat.

Response
She liked it better than the other ideas.

How did engaging with a real person change your direction?

Engaging with a real person was very useful because you can think about a product with one very specific target, which makes it more likely to be successful.

What was it like showing unfinished work to each other?

Because is not a real client, I think it can be funny, but if it were in another context, I would be very ashamed.

how did the pace of the rapid iterations feel?

Talking to Maddy went well, but for designing something so specific, I would prefer more time.

What stage would you revisit/do next?

I think in general I should have made a game, but somehow the story of the cat got very into me, and it was difficult to take it out of the project.
