This animation is an interesting love story. A man wants to go swim but the only swimming pool in the city is full of people In the day time. Therefore he sneaks in after it closed under the cover of night. When he is enjoying the cool water, suddenly, he bumps into a girl, then they swim together and fall in love. At that time, a security guard shows up and asks them to leave. They have to come out, until this time, we can see their lower body—the man is a centaur, the girl is a mermaid. The security guard freaks out and runs away immediately.

The animation creates a surprise for the audience, it uses various ways to make the audience can not see characters' lower body, which does foreshadowing for revealing the identity of the man and the woman at the end. I think the author is very clever, even if the man hides his legs all the time, it also shows naturally and does not give the audience a sense of disobedience. This is because the man is doing something secretly which doesn’t want to be noticed.

Method

I ‘ll make an animation in TVPaint which using the environment to create a false impression about my characters and make the audience surprised at the end.

Response

During the animation, I make my character walk slowly on the road with his webbed feet, and pedestrians scream and run away in fear when they pass him. At this point, the camera can only see the lower part of the character. I want to create a feeling that the character with web in the middle is a monster. when the camera zoom out, we find that the animation takes place at the bottom of the sea. The monster is actually a man in a diving suit, while the pedestrians are monsters with fish head. I think the final result is pretty good. Through the feedback from my classmates, the audience can really feel surprised, which is what I want.

Reflection

Creating characters is a very interesting process. In animation, we can use various events, reactions, and the environment to reflect their characteristics as side describe. In this lesson, I was very enjoyable, because this is the first time I use side describe to express the thing I want the audience to see, and produced a dramatic effect. I have learned a lot from this course, and I can apply this method to my creation in the future.
