Context

Dofus (developed and published by Ankama Games, 2004) is a turn-based strategy 2D mmorpg. There is a place in the game where you are able to shift from present, past and future; each location containing different character entities and different landscape, allowing access to different locations.

7th Dragon III Code:VFD (developed and published by Sega, 2015) is a JRPG where in order to save the world, you need to collect artifacts across time and space. At several points through the game, you go back in time to change something; once you return to the present, the present has been affected. Later, when you return to that first location, you are able to access new maps which you couldn't before thanks to your changes.

Blinx: The Time Sweeper (D by Artoon, P by Microsoft Game Studios, 2002) is an adventure (and nostalgic) game where time is a core mechanic. You are able to stop, record and playback time in order to shape the environment in a way which is convenient to access other locations.

Method

I want to create a small gameplay prototype which uses time as a core mechanic. The player will need to go from point A to point B, but would need to shift in time in order to access these locations. The world itself would be made of several maps, each allowing specific navigation and ability to reach certain places.

Response

I've created a single puzzle prototype using 3 maps. The player starts in the future, and is able to go to the present and past; each having a different level design and props.

In order to reach the other side of the map, the player needs to shift time, walk to a key location (estimated by the player. If wrong, the player will fall and die), and shift time again.
