Theme-

Observation

Context-

Alphabetical Keyboard. Alphabetical pattern.

Christopher Latham Sholes, is an American inventor who invented the QWERTY keyboard.

Abstract artist, Mark Rothko believes that paintings speak for themselves. He observes what other people think about his paintings. “Obstacles between the painter and the idea, and between the idea and the observer.” These are what the artist said in the published journal. He left few paintings untitled to allow viewers to respond to the forms. I chose this context because I wasn’t able to find another artist with the related work as mine but I researched on other artists that use “observation” to tell what others reacted with the change.

Looking at the keyboard, thinking what to type, i started to think how it would be to type if it was in an alphabetical order. Since we are used to the original way, we can easily type but I wonder how it is when its changed.

Method-

I will be using 2 computers. One computer will have a normal keyboard, In the other computer, I will put sticky paper on each of the keys and place it in an alphabetical order.  I will record the time it takes for my classmates to write their names using the normal keyboard, and then record the time it takes them to write their name on the alphabetical order keyboard. I want people to imagine that this type of keyboard exists. We all are adjusted with the original one and know how to type but I wonder what will happen if all the keys were in alphabetical order? It will take more long to type as we aren't used to this. The results will be interesting to know how fast one can take to adjust into a new change.

Response-

I have attached a video below on the MAGI site. I compiled videos of my classmates results as they typed on an alphabetical keyboard vs normal keyboard.
