Week 9

Response

In response to the theme of Forces, I created three short animation pieces under the same rules using Maya.

RULES:

  1. All objects are formed of a cube.
  2. All objects are either black or white.
  3. All objects work in groups.

For the first two of my idea, I’ve used patterns created in black and white as my base and further developed my idea from them. By animating the patterns, I am able to create interesting effects. The first animation looks slightly like the form of DNA when the camera placement happens and the second animation is showing a shift between two different patterns. For the third animation, I decided to create something totally different under the same rules. I created an animation of a galaxy that is rotating and flipped its colour drastically when the light is turned on. By applying the same rules to the three iterations I created, I produced animations in a similar style based on different ideas.

Similar work has been produced by Eddie Cheng, whose work ‘Forms’ (https://youtu.be/X1SWUDKORUI) explores the relationship between shapes with the association of music rhythm in black and white.
