Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

In response to the week’s theme of character and events, I made a short comic that shows the part of the story Frankenstein (where Captan Walton travels to explore the North pole, but gets stuck in the ice then eventually decides to turn back) with an extended couple of images depicting a ship from 2021 also traveling through the arctice, but due to human imapct can easily pass through the ice, as there is not as much as there was in the early 1800's.

By showing a character (the ship) turning around/ the difference in the state of the ice from the past and the present I wish to convey the idea that characters decisions can be effected by other characters (by referencing Frankenstein, where Captain Walton acts to not make similar mistakes to Victor, who took his quest for knowledge to far.) With the present day section I wanted to highlight the idea that past decisions make our present and that new choices can still be made.

Similar themes are present in Lin Ward's wood cutting illustrations for Frankenstein. The characters, objects and landscape also appear visually connected.
