Method

‘Music Video’ describing place. Animated on Procreate, which then transferred into After Effects. 

Context

Thinking of Place as a concept. Creating something that doesn't exist initially. Inspired by Uyen Nguyen's previous lecture and works, how she animates using the sounds that she picks up during her walk around the city.

Response 

I started my search to find a song that will describe me a specific time and space. I listened to multiple songs that I thought would be ideal for this conquest and initially I was going to create these vignettes of different songs that convey different places through their lyrics. The song Astronaut by Simple Plan stood out to me, as the lyrics were describing a specific scene and place while every line was disturbed by their explanation of the feelings in the result of this isolated place. They relate the sense of free rotating on the most vast place the human kind have ever (tried) to explore with confinement and loneliness. It intrigued me to try and animate this feeling and space (almost literally). 

I haven't watched the music video, but because they center the whole song around this astronaut I decided to make them the main character to represent this video. The concept of Place that I want to explore is the non existing space that we create as we listen to specific description. When people listen to these specific lyrics, they might think of different situations, but most likely they will all end up including space in one way or another, as the lyrics are trying to ground everyone's imaginative state with the theme. (the repetition of drifting, astronaut)
