Week 5

Response

In response to the theme of Objects are not Exhausted, I decided to explore the relationship between cats and music. I created a 2D animated short clip with a cat react to the rhythm of the music and the music notes. Before animating, I looked into different reactions of animals to music, or sound in general. For example, dogs react to a certain high pitch voice and trained snakes dance to music.

By animating the cat trying to grab onto the music note, I showed the nature of the cat that tries to play with small objects. Also, by changing the posture of the cat based on the rhythm of the music, I was able to show that cats react to music as well.

Similar work has been produced by Augustin Hadelich, whose work ‘Fantasia dei Gatti’ (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yIl0oKt5Ek) explores this theme by showing the reaction of stray cats to Paganini Caprice No. 17.
