THEME:

Found Object

CONTEXT:

I played with the objects in the classroom and then realized later that my concept was similar to the practitioner below.

Using objects to draw a spaceship: https://nerdist.com/article/artist-spaceships-household-objects/

An artist (Eric Geusz) drew spaceships based on the shape of different household items : https://www.artstation.com/ericgeusz/albums/all

    METHOD:

    1. Look for inspirations.

    2. Combine objects together.

    3. Change thoughts from making stop motion animation to making a short 3D animation in Maya.

    RESPONSE:

A cool spaceship includes: two logitech mouses in the classroom, a black tape dispenser in the classroom and a box of pencil lead.

I was looking for all the stuff on my hand, a bacon pencil case, several pens, a sushi keychain…. and even played with the clay dough to see what I come up with. And I ended up doing nothing make any sense. I tried to look at the table and play with the mouse, then noticed that maybe the light of a mouse can be something, I put two mouses into my pencil case, but again I wasn’t sure what to do next.

After that, I found a black tape dispenser on the table then suddenly a thought came to my mind, maybe I could make a spaceship with these things, the tape could be a windshield, the box of the pencil lead could be the seat, and the mouses could be the wings of the spaceship.

At the final step, I put the pencil lead box in the tape dispenser then tried to stick the mouses on both side of the tape dispenser with tape(not very stable so I have to hold them), thinking I could make a tiny stop motion animation. I just need to use photoshop to remove my hand moving the spaceship. But that would be too many pictures….Finally, I decided to model, rig and animate my spaceship in maya.

t took more time than I expected to make this small piece of work but still I am quite satisfied about it. Although I didn’t add sounds to my work, I think it would be nice to do so so that the audience would feel more engaging while they were watching it. Moreover, it would be nice to do the stop motion if I want to add more actions or vfx to my work. For example a white plastic bag could be the smoke coming out from the spaceship, and maybe other stationary supplies could also make an interesting spaceship. (Scissors could be the wings of the spaceship too!)
