In response to the theme of Discussions of Place, I made a small reflecting maze environment using Unity.
By creating an environment that feels due to the isntructions given to the player. When they player heads towards a direction the game does not want it to go, it is given negative reinforcement. The environment is reflected so the paths are identical. The only difference is that the player is told that only one way is correct with next to no evidence why that is the only correct path.
Similar works has been produced by Davey Wreden, whose work The Beginners Guide explores this concept of creating a space where users must follow a rigid linear path that they have decided for progression. Wreden explores this concept of forced progression in his other work The Stanley Parable.
