Context:

I brought a rope. This particular rope is for shibari, the Japanese art of rope bondage. It is made of a red-dyed jute which makes it non-elastic. This is an important property for its purpose as elastic ropes cut off the circulation. I chose this object because it appears innocuous but its use makes it interesting.

How the rope is used is what makes it interesting. Alone it is just a rope.

Method:

I thought it would be interesting to construct a short narrative game in Unity about a rope who is looking for its purpose and identity.

Response:

I got as far as constructing the UI and options buttons but after several hours setting all this up I had run out of time to actually write a script. I was honestly quite frustrated at this stage as I was feeling like I was floundering around in different project ideas each week but not getting anywhere. Having a very vague topic each week and loose direction is quite an uncomfortable space for me to be in creatively. I find myself getting lost and obsessed with small details and without a guiding idea to return my mind to I waste a lot of time.

I’ve decided I want to work towards my own additional theme each week and within a unity project I can return to each week instead of creating something entirely new. I think this would be much more useful for me. I’ll still explore the class themes through this space but I will at least have some things working there to begin with.
