THEME:

Tinkering

CONTEXT:

Jurassic Park logo : https://i.ytimg.com/vi/mR9cwV_Ds-0/maxresdefault.jpg

It has a flat and silouette design.

METHOD:

Exploring the possibilities of a character with unfamiliar software and tools.

    1. Try new software- Zbrush

    2. Try unfamiliar tool in familiar software- Photoshop

    3. Mix different media- Photoshop

RESPONSE:

I have never used Zbrush before, so I decided to try it without watching the tutorial video and see what I can do with it. I chose a dog model and try randoml brushes on it. It became a weird creature. I screenshot the creature, put it into photoshop and see what I can do with this alien dog. First, I created a new layer on the photo, and use the brushes I wouldn’t use before and draw on the new layer, trying to draw the figure of the alien dog. Second, I tried different brushes and draw. And then I changed the look of of the photo into black and white then I got something like Jurassic Park logo.

Next, I thought maybe I should find a background for the alien dog, and I did’t want to just draw it. I was thinking: what else have I got?  Then I decided to use a photo in my phone. I chose the picture that look like a portal (photo was taken before the speech which was held yesterday) so that the dog could walk from it into the real world. Finally I think maybe I can make it move but without using any animation software, so I play with the puppet warp tool in photoshop and record the movement.

I enjoy the process of playing with the unfamiliar tools because I can’t know what the object will eventually turn out. I like how the dog look like and I think I will keep develop this character base on these experiential results.
