Theme: Tinkering

Method: Requested a list of prompts, both in terms of mediums (pencil sketches, digital sketches, programming, taking photo) and general concepts (bright, dark, curved, heavy). Spent about fifteen minutes working in each medium with no real goal in mind, and then mashed the results together in AGS.

Context: Tinkering, AGS. Some visual inspiration from Ruby Quest, Bioshock.

Response:

The first step of this project, for me, was trying to work out what it meant to "tinker" without a goal in mind. Sure, I probably do a lot of it in my free time without thinking about it, but actually being asked to do so for an assignment caused me to get hung up on finding a starting point. The trouble for me was that the prompt seemed "too broad", so I requested some extra parameters and went from there.

The result is some sort of weird environment test, based on a page of rabbit sketches and some metal compasses that were sitting on my coffee table for some reason. I liked how they looked from a low angle, and tried to turn them into a semi-surreal environment for an adventure game.

This turned into a really fast way of designing and testing out backgrounds. I should try this more often.
