Send help - I'm lost.

Theme:

Tinkering - to achieve low-stakes play, improvisation and iteration.

Context:

Windosill by Vector Park - http://windosill.com/

An interactive experience utilising 3D assets with a 2D aesthetic. I'm inspired by the simplicity and intuitive design that invites the player to explore the assets.

Method:

I will tinker with the software Unity to see how it works and what level of control I can capture.

Response:

After creating a basic stage and objects, I quickly became eager to import more complex assets from the Asset Store. I found an interesting character asset and became motivated to try add controls to it, soon encountering the necessity to understand how to script and how to apply said scripts. Unfortunately I was unable to make large steps of progress in this area during class, nor learn why my controllers didn't work. I do, however, have a renewed admiration for those that do have control over the details behind game making.

Additional Findings:

I started out in Construct3, an online game maker software, while I figured out how to set up an account in Unity (this took an inordinate amount of time). Following along a simple tutorial I was able to learn how to import assets and place simple behaviours on a player character before I was able to move on to unity. In hindsight, Construct3 was easier to understand and provided a quicker point for progress.
