Theme:

Tinkering as Method - to play with new materials and software quickly without a goal in mind, simply learn through process.

Context:

The Mouse in the Video Game -  https://go.nature.com/2J7DJjO

A study very recently published that focuses on the neuroscience of mice, when exposed to stimuli specifically in a VR setting

'Moss' Game - https://bit.ly/2M3kq8t

The steam page for the game 'Moss' in which a little mouse solves puzzles and gives the user cues in sign language to solve puzzles.

Neon City / 3D speed drawing + Tiny Review / MagicaVoxel  - https://bit.ly/2EW6eeR

A quick youtube tutorial for beginners, showing how to create simple buildings in MagicaVoxel, as well as render certain effects.

Method:

I read through the online study and observed the GIF image attached. I decided to depict a mouse with a VR headset on its head but made sure it was in a free environment (unlike the study in which the mouse was in some way or form restricted).

Response:

I tinkered in an unknown program to me (MagicaVoxel) to create a simply built mouse in a comfortable environment. I learnt how to;

  • build simple objects and characters

  • paint the blocks to add interest

  • render specific parts of the piece to depict internal light sources

Observation Findings:

After observing some of the 'Moss' gameplay, I really wanted a part of my piece to pop with some sort of glow and not have just a flat image. I decided on the glass in the environment.
