Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

This is the submission for Week 10 CPS (Forces).

In response for this week’s theme: Forces, I made a couple of animations using Looom on an iPad.

By choosing this app, I restricted myself and created a set of rules that would help me with this week’s work. The app only lets you work on 5 layers with very limited brushes and other tools to make the animation. The app forces you to animate in a ‘let it flow’ and more intuitive manner. This also helped me with my iterations to make newer types of animation each time. As I had never attempted animating in CPS before, as I take a lot of time and plan the way I would attempt animating a sequence, this was a very new experience and had to step out of my comfort zone. I was listening to music when I was animating the sequences and by the third animation, I tried to animate along with the music. This resulted in a unique animation. I realised by the end that even though the patterns and movements were not following the 4/4 beat of the song, every movement was still coordinating with a singular beat each time, giving this off beat, but on beat effect which felt really bizarre to watch.

Similar looom animation have been done by iorama which helped me start animating in the beginning. His work shows you how to use the app and have fun with it.

When I started working on the third iteration, I looked online to see if anyone has done something similar, and found coolquentin pull off something similar, but far more complex. I did take inspiration from what he did to make the third piece.
