Week 1

Response

In response to the theme of Observation, I created a 3d modelling of a vending machine using primitive shapes in Maya. By pushing in the top of the vending machine for Picture One and exaggerating it for Picture Two, I was able to create a more cartoony style for my artwork.

In the process, I used multiple primitive shapes to create the 3d modelling. Also, the shapes were used as the product of the vending machine. The constant usage of shapes is actually presenting my idea, in which a character is mainly built from simple shapes. In this case, my character is a vending machine and it is built from mostly rectangles.

I used Ambient Occlusion as its material because it shows the shape of the modelling clearly. Simple Lambert material was applied to the goods of the machine so that they would show contrast to the machine.

Similar work has been created by Kenze Wee, who designed cyberpunk vending machines based on different primitive shapes. In addition to that, some of the design is the combination of two primitive shapes.
