CPS WEEK 1: Observations - Plants

In response to the theme of observation, I made a drawing of my mother’s plant Haworthia Fasciata by using Photoshop. 

The plant is small, the triangular shaped leaves are red-brown with narrow white crested strips on the outside. The plant's appearance resembles a tangle of snakes, it also still resembles an octopus swimming downwards through the ground. To express my initial thought, I decided to sketch the plant as a group of snakes entwined together. But then I had a change of mind. The plant's snake-like appearance could be a natural adaptation to defend itself, I reasoned. The thought of snakes hiding or searching for prey with the aid of this plant might be more appealing.

In terms of presentation, I didn't use a more natural and realistic painting style. Instead, I went for the more obvious cartoons on photos to express the idea. I admire artist Lucas Levitan's painting style. I think the mixture of realism and cartoon is very innovative. This is a means of properly expressing that inspiration is everywhere and that life could be full of it. And this format is ideal for expressing life creative ideas and also some sensitive subjects, as it can help to defuse the serious mood and make the audiences understand the artist's idea and emotion more readily.
