In response to the theme of Place, I try to use Photoshop and Primer to build a future city that in my imagination.

I mainly focus on two different ways (actually is two different stories), one is try to show a city which is attacked by monster.

Some resources from:

By building those two environments, I understand how to show a story through a few short scene. I try to add some figure to enhance the story and let people to think about it. The American director Wes Andreson’s environment design is really attractive to me. I love how he uses the color and texture in the film which is much similar to Polaroids and oil painting. In addition, his film also has full compliance with balanced aesthetics. This can be especially seen in The Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kindom and the Isle of Dogs. I enjoy how he understand the movie scene.

As well as the balanced aesthetics place design, which reflects the different situation and relationship between characters from his movies. Such as the deserted rubbish built island for dogs contrasted with the clean city where humans live. This conflicting feeling and color expression are seen from the Moonrise Kindom as well. The 12 years couple Sam and Suzy living in a fantasy life of their imagination in the wilderness, and all adults are living in brightly colored but single style city.

In The Grand Budapest, the design of the hotel is also very clever. As the story is told by flashbacks, the hotel shows a process from old to new. In that case, I am trying to refer the balance art from Wes Andreson’s to design a totally opposite imagination city. Such as up city and down city from Alita: Battle Angel, and it may be attacked by some strange monster.
