Theme: Archive.

Method: Observation, Reflection, Reinterpretation, Tinkering, Ooo!, Forces.

Context: This final response contains a visual summary of al projects developed during CP&S course and it was completely based on my favorite theme Tinkering. Different from previous responses, this one was done on a more conscious way looking for an specific visual and conceptual result.

Response:

And here we are! After all these weeks we faced the challenge to create something that will include everything we did during this course. With this final submission a wanted to be as spontaneous as possible but then once the idea was on the table, I would try to be more conscious about its development and what I wanted it to look like and communicate.

Tinkering was my favorite theme due to the reactions I had while doing that relational art exercise, this doesn’t mean that all the other themes were not as interesting. As mentioned before, you start to see how all these themes are connected and they make you think and reflect about concepts that you hadn’t until that moment. So, this last project was born from the necessity to show what this whole experience was for me and to sum all the previous responses in one object, un Saca Piojos! Or in English, a cootie catcher.

This device was able to predict our future, to see if we were going to be rich or marry a beautiful human being, you could even know if you were a good-looking person or an ugly son of a mother. This origami piece along with many other things that we used to craft when we were young are a big part of our collective development, on a worldwide level, as it can be found in almost every country and lots our grandparents taught us how to make it and their grandparents to them. How cool is that a simple piece of paper has been able to live through all these ages?

Also, I took advantage of this opportunity to draw again with inks and simply have fun. Each side of the cootie catcher reveals a “fanart” piece (or a reinterpretation) that makes a reference to the response of each theme and all the illustrations are done under a medieval atmosphere, this decision was done just in order to make the best out of the few things I had with me. Black ink and raw paper.
