Character, Place & Simulation Week 4's Class Activity

Staying related to my major studio project (an audio centered videogame for the visually impaired), I need to be able to simulate 3D space using only audio for users/ players who lack all vision.

One of the main locations within the game will be 'Grandma's House'.

The attached image is a 'visual mapping' of the location, 'Grandma's House', and the different sounds associated with each element of the scene's loaction, materials and objects that make the Place and give it character.

These are pieces of audio that i will either need to source or create myself for implementation;

  • Cicadas (warm/hot/ drought)
  • Expanding Tin (hot day at farm house/shed)
  • Water echo in Tin (water tank)
  • Rain on Tin roof
  • Crunch of gravel and dirt (driveway and track)
  • Hammer echo (Shed)
  • Car parts (Shed)
  • Creaking and rustling of Gum trees
  • Rusted Gate
  • Twanging wire fence
  • Rustling of long dry grass
  • Dog(s) bark
  • Cow(s) moo (paddock)
  • Horses neigh (paddock)
  • Doppler effect of Trucks passing on hi-way
  • Wooden wall and floor pannels creaking
  • etc

A lot of what is 'mapped' is my own memory recall from my time as a child, when I'd go on 'adventures' and explore my Grandma's farm.
