In Class:

  1. Write down on three seperate pieces of paper, three rules.
  2. Everyone places the rules together in a hat, and each person draws out another three.
  3. Make a contribution to your studio project, following those three rules. -What?!

Context:

The three rules I drew are as follows:

  1. Just open one eye.
  2. Present Light, only by using four colours.
  3. Speaking and singing.

I am *supposed* to be making an audio only game...this is going to be interesting. Challenge accepted!

Method:

Not everyone who is visually impaired or leagally blind, can't see or depict light or colour. If game scenes are kept to simple geometric shapes, and have contrasting colours applied to them, some players *should* (in theory) see them. This will allow rule 2 to be in play.

Meanwhile, following rule 1, 'Just open one eye', I will take my glasses off while I create a mockup of a scene in the game in a Night and Day cycle. My own uncorrected vison is like trying to focus through an unfocused camera under water. One. Big. Giant. Blob.

Once these mockups are completed, I will then apply them to my game's scene's .obj textures and implement speech audio, to follow rule 3, 'Speaking and singing'.

Response:

Part A) "Just open one eye" and "Present Light, only by using four colours." four screen mock ups have been made within photoshop, experimenting with different colour cominations to depict a day and night cycle at Grandma's.

I feel happy with the softness of my Night cycle mockup, it still requires player testing to see if it can serve it's purpose. However, the Day cycle still requires work before it can please my own aesthetic pleasure. Mockups one and two appear too harsh in lighting while attempt at mockup three seems too 'muddy', I wish to recreate or simulate an australian summer day.

Part B) "Speaking and singing" : sound implemented in game.
