CONTEXT

This video is inspired by the introduction to ferrofluid that I have seen a long time ago, A ferrofluid or ferromagnetic fluid is a liquid that becomes strongly magnetized in the presence of a magnetic field. When a paramagnetic fluid is subjected to a strong vertical magnetic field, the surface forms a regular pattern of peaks and valleys. This effect is known as Rosensweig or normal-field instability.

And a recent YouTuber video can give me a clearer production idea. He briefly described how to use magnets and ferrofluid to make some interesting videos through cases.

METHOD

In my opinion, ferrofluid is a very interesting substance, which looks like a black liquid without the influence of a magnet. Under the influence of the magnet, it will become a solid similar to metal. It is difficult for me to judge whether it is solid or liquid.

After I shoot the video with my mobile phone, I mainly edit and score through Adobe Premiere. To make the video look more interesting, I chose to use slow-motion for shooting and production.

RESPONSE / REFLECTION

During the production process, I also encountered many problems, mainly related to equipment problems. First of all, the camera I can use is my phone. Compared to a camera that can use a macro lens, I can only put the camera close to the ferrofluid, but this also brings another problem. The camera cannot focus if the distance is too close. On the other hand, I cannot use reliable lights. All I can use is a desk lamp, which cannot provide enough brightness and rich colours.
