Rationale

For this week theme of play and abstract, I researched on abstract paintings and art works, such as works of Jackson Pollock. By looking at his works and how they had been created, I am impressed by the progression, tools, and context. Despite the composition, anatomy, light, shadow, and decent details, abstract art represents itself by the textures, strains, and turbidity, which creates strong but variety concept, depending on the audience. I decided to use the progression of creating abstract art works to be somethings people can play with, then commute to others.

Context

I got the inspiration from the works of Jackson Pollock (1912-1956), and card game called ‘Cards Against Humanity’ (2011) - https://www.cardsagainsthumanity.com/

Method

I created a prototype of card game by using paper. There are two desks of cards, one is topic and the other one is how the players may create the artwork.

How to Play.

  1. Everyone picks one card from both desks
  2. The player may create an artwork in 3 minutes with the topic and method that was written on the cards. (players will play in order, not at the same time)
  3. Other players may guess the topic. The first one who got a correct answer may receive one point as well as the player who creates the art.

The topics are not a physical existence, but they are abstract concept such as love, hate, capitalism, politic, religion. The ‘how to’ cards are based on progression of crating artworks, for example, paint drops. single line, using non-dominant hand.
