Play and Body

CONTEXT

Human's body is really flexible, especially our hands, it is the difference between human and other animals. In Philip Worthington’s work, he use body shadow to created shadow monster, this work give me some inspiration. I start thought about hand shadowing. 

METHOD

I use hand shadowing to make some shape of animals by my little night-light and bedroom wall.

RESPONSE

For this week's theme, first thing I thought is how to play our body. I want to play something can connect to design with my body. When I decide to use hand shadowing to create animal shapes, I have thought about I can use the shadow of animal to bit my cat, it will be interesting. But when I start to play, I realized that cat can't be control, maybe bitting my friend or dog is easier. But I couldn't find friend in midnight and also does not have dog, so I just pay attention for shadowing the animal shapes. It is really funny to see your hand's shadow changing its shape, it feels like watch a metamorphosis animation in the wall. I was thought my hands is flexible, but unfortunately not. I need try lots times to make my hands shapes looks like eyes, mouth, fore head and etc. Even there are some problems in my work process, I was really enjoy it. As the Shadow Monster of Philip, I also made some monsters by shadow. The difference is I made human body looks like monsters and he made human body became monsters.
