Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

Theme:
Play and Object

Method:
For this exercise I created a simple 2D animation that focuses more on my Studio work rather than my discipline. I decided to tackle the theme of Object as the Subject and as Modification.

Context:
My Major project and Literature Review has to do with successfully showing an intangible character’s characteristic and feeling/motivation to the audience by utilizing Principles of Animation and Illusion of Life. So I incorporated my project endeavor to the theme of Object by animating a character’s reaction to different modifications of the ball (Object), in hopes that I was able to portray the emotion of the character properly.

Response:
The keywords I chose from Advanced Play Design were ‘Experimentation’, ‘Exploration’ and ‘Making’. This was an experiment to me because I animated the character’s reaction as a byproduct of the object. There was no pre-planning or iterations of character reactions to grab the best emotion. As soon as I thought of the modification of the ball, I immediately began animating with the goal in mind of portraying the feelings properly to the audience. My studio project delves into the importance of movement, so the simplistic character for this exercise helped me drill into that practice.
