Theme:

Play and Place

Method:

I will take pictures from my phone of different places such as the street, park etc. I will use photoshop to make the scene post apocalyptic style. This idea derived from my studio 3 project since I am modelling 3d environments and making it distorted to make it look like an apocalyptic scene. My project are different scenarios of ambient animation of the apocalpse theme. For Advanced play and place, I decided to use the same theme as it's mainly connected to place and environment. I thought about changing the environment in a place by making it look dark and lonely.

Context:

New Miniature Post-Apocalyptic Environments by Lori Nix and Kathleen Gerber.

"Nix and Gerber’s new scenes move away from a focus on water-damaged and rusty interiors to explore broad outdoor environments recently devoid of civilization. Scaffolding and bridges crumble as plants begin to poke back through cement cracks, subtle hints that nature has begun to reclaim its land." By Lori Nix and Kathleen Gerber, Colossal, Feburary 15,2018.

Response:

I am happy with my result. I did manage to make my scene look like the apocalptic style. These styles will give me an idea of how I can make my scenes for studio 3 and what style and what type of lighting is needed. I had a lot of fun changing values of saturation or brightness or levels and playing around with it to make it dark. No filters were used to create it. It was all changing and tweaking of different values on photoshop.

Reflection: (EDITED/UPDATED)

This exercise is playful to artists and viewers because no one imagines a day like a post-apocoloptic scene to occur in real life. It allows everyone to think of different scenarios or different ways an image can be converted to. An example such as a park in my first image, it's meant to be a calm and quiet area. Using play and by experimenting with different values and lights in Photoshop you can transform it to something completely different. It's a playful technique of editing pictures and transforming it to your imagination.
