Week 07

Play & Character & Events

http://magistudio.net/work/apd-week-07-character-events

Method

I used SAI to paint every frame to see the different results from different changing forms of Polygons. After that, I put them into TV-paint to make them move fluently.

Response

This is an short gif about the character(a planet) having some explosion events. I combined every layer of the storyboard to find out the pattern of motion in these events, which was inspired by the short animation trailer of RWBY. In that trailer, the moon is broken in pieces at the beginning and I liked that feeling. Therefore, I was wondering what would it be like if I play that special effects in my planet.

Week 08

Play & Time

http://magistudio.net/work/apd-week-07-time

Response

I played it with random painting in different squares with different grey to create a feeling of fading and changing, and I split the image into 513 squares. This is an unlimited time changing, just like the YING-YANG theory in China. The most interesting thing in here is that you will feel hard to choose squares randomly, it is more likely you will choose the specific ones according to habit. However, it was still full of fun.

Week 09

Play & Forces

http://magistudio.net/work/apd-week-09-forces

Response

I was playing with this image with 2 kind of forces: Outside-force & Inside-force.

At the begining, it feels like the whole space is forcing everything together to be a circle (or a planet). However, the circle find a way to fight this force to make everything remain pure. I cut the original space with some irregular geometries to show the force majeure from outside. I really like this scene and I am considering to add it into my animation for the first part.

Week 10

Play & Stillness

http://magistudio.net/work/apd-week-10-stillness-1

Response

I was looking for a way to make things staying their original form while they are actually changing. In this short GIF I made, every grid in this picture remain the same pattern and same position. The only changing factor is the color. It became something specific at the end, yet it is still the same thing as the beginning. This is one of my favorite games: visual misleading.
