Advance Play Design Week 11

Theme: Play and Stillness

A 3D walking simulator.

Context:

I made this game with 2 kind of stillness. Firstly, this game is a walking simulator, which means the player don't have much things to do, just walking through a still world. Secondly, I want to show the beauty of stillness of machines. Machines are strong and still, they do the same kind of movement again and again untill the material wear or rusts to broke. But this is because of the material, the concept of machine itself is immortal, and I think this immortality is amazing. I thought this is kind of stillness. So I made this game, tried to show the beauty of stillness of machines by a walking simulator which is a type of game that is also stillness. I made some simple machines such as gear systems, pendulum, piston and armillary sphere, use them to build a scene of a giant, mythic machine in the universe.

Method:

Unity 2020.1.0b1

Probuilder

Response:

I thought about making an endless walking simulator with random map generator, different kind of machines will appear as the player go through the world. But I figured out that I can't make so many different type of machines that can make a random generated world looks no so boring, due to my low skill of modelling and lack of time. As a result, I gave up the random generator idea after I found out I already spend several hours just on making those gears.

Reflection:

Again, I felt hard to develop a game myself without any help of an aritist because I don't have skill of modelling and drawing.
