Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

Responding to the theme of Play and Nature.I used animal paper cuts to create a two-dimensional and realistic animation.

Context

My work this week is a two-dimensional

and realistic animation that animates paper-cut drawings of animals and combines them with real natural scenery. I was inspired by the photography of artist Pu Huo, who combined animal silhouettes with natural landscapes.I wanted to explore how animal silhouettes and natural landscapes could look good when they were animated.

Method

First, I drew frame by frame the movements of animals, the flying movements of birds, and the walking movements of horses and walking penguins and swimming fish on the white background board. Then I used the magic wand tool to remove parts of their bodies, leaving only the silhouettes of the animals. Then import it into a moving image, adjust the size of the moving image, and add it to the recorded natural scenery video. The first video and the third video were shot by myself, the second video and the Iast video is free material found on the Internet. Combining GIFs with video, natural landscapes are presented in silhouettes of animals.

Response

The result of this experiment is a unique form of animation. Usually, we see still object silhouettes combined with natural scenery photos, and this work is a combination of dynamic object silhouettes and natural scenery. The most exciting thing in this process is that you can not only enjoy the beautiful natural view but also watch the different pictures through the silhouettes of birds and horses.

Reflection

Initially, I would use silhouettes to make a dramatic animation and then combine natural scenery with silhouette animation. But then I thought that if I made an animation with a plot, it would deviate from the theme of Play and nature, and it would be difficult for the audience to focus on nature.
