Theme: Play and Abstract

Content:

The main concept was inspired by Masanobu Hiraoka’ s work, his works have a unique personal style. Especially in the abstract scene transformation design and bright color collocation. In his works, the styles and ways of scene transformation are varied, each time in unexpected forms. Let me look at this series of works in the process, began to look forward to each new change. In the works of the author, many different spins and flows are used to enrich the animation.

Even if the work is an abstract subject, relying solely on the transformation of the scene, the author can tell the story from it. I think this kind of story-like scene transformation can be better used in animation.

Method:

First determine the beginning, middle and end of the picture, and then connect with the form of flow and rotation.

Software: Clip studio

Response:

I have to admit that this week's practice is difficult for me. It is also the first time for me to try abstract style works, and scene conversion is also the difficulty that I haven't broken through since I studied animation. I spent a lot of time thinking about this loop animation, thinking about what images are different, but related, and what changes can be made in the conversion process. After careful consideration, I designed a character like me and set this character as the beginning screen. At the end of the animation, the moon also represents my name.

For the middle scene transition, I designed the scene of the explosion. And the reason why it's designed this way is because I think an explosion can generate a lot of transformation, and it has a visual impact.

After finishing the line drawing, I tried to paint it in a few richer colors, but the result was not as strong as the contrast between black and white. So black and white became the theme colors of this animation. At the end of the moon, only light yellow is used to enrich the black-and-white theme.

Reflection

This week's practice took me a little too long, and I spent a lot of time thinking about it. Because I wanted to come up with some new ideas to make the animation look innovative. This is the first time for me to make such kind of animation. I am always afraid that my animation cannot perfectly express my ideas. However, the beginning is difficult, and after the beginning I admit that the process is fun and free. I'm free to incorporate ideas into the animation, especially when it comes to scene transitions. After determining the beginning and end scenes, I drew the design part of the middle scene transformation with a kind of aimless idea. I didn't have any decision on which scene to transform, but just put the idea into the animation. However, I realized that it was surprisingly good, making the animation more flexible and creative. As Sicart (2014) mentioned in ‘Play matters’, Play has a purpose, but the purpose is not fixed. These purposes change with the process of Play.

In general, I am satisfied with the effect of the animation, but the length is too short. In the future, I will focus on studying the scene conversion in the animation. This week's practice was a good experience for me, which enabled me to have a preliminary attempt in the scene conversion of 2D animation, and to understand the process of its production and thinking.
