Theme: Observation

Method: Making a 4 panel comic.

Context: Yon-goma (4 panel) comics. Snoopy, Lucky Star, Working!

Response: By Observing surroundings and taking pictures of it and linking them into a 4 panel narrative. A 4 panel comic as its name consist of 4 panels of images and tells a short story or scenario. Generally it’s often used in gag comic strip. For the structure, each panel has its own purpose. Japanese named the 4 stages of 4 panel comic as kishotenketsu (起承転結).

Ki (起): The first panel of the comic, an introduction or setup of the scene.

Sho (承): The second panel of the comic, the development of the story, a scene or an event that raises question.

Ten (転): The third panel of the comic, the climax of the story. An action or an answer to the question.

Ketsu (結): The fourth/final panel of the comic, the conclusion of the story. The end of the outcome of the event.

Within this exercise, I was challenged to capture the right moment to take the photo from any surrounding through observation. The photo will represent a particular scene in the 4 panel comic by placing them in the right order for the narrative.
