APD- Week 1

play and self, find a special way to observe yourself 

Context:

Contour drawing, inspired by Adam Riches, he uses contour to capture the outline of a character. I can feel the emotion through his work, even though everything is based on lines and one* colour. Not only the emotion from his work, but also the characters are solid and vivid, which are quite different from the super-realistic art. I have realized that Adam Riches pays more attention to the soul of each character he have drew.

To draw the feelings of myself

Before I start drawing this work, I have used a quite long time to review myself, what kind of feeling that I usually have or what kind of emotion can represent myself, then I realized that I turned to be increasingly peaceful, especially I can’t have the enthusiasm to the object in life when I was a child. Furthermore, I have asked classmates, what was your first expression of me, or what kind of person you think I am. Most of them have simliar answer that I’m slicence and peaceful all the time. As a result, in the work, I used a peaceful expression to represent the most part of me, which is the woman at the bottom. 

However, I’m not always peaceful to everything, just like others, there have different me in my head. I am a person who is not good at expressing myself, even if I don’t show the feeling on my face. In this work, I opened my head and mind, and put different ones in my mind on myself. There were me wearing glasses while studying, me in makeup, and me in rest.  In the corner, I drew a self with a demon horn to show the dark side that sometimes appeared in my heart but I wanted to suppress it.

This is the first time I have shown myself on a painting, and I'm still not used to it. I feel that my inner thoughts will be discovered.  But this is also close to the theme of ‘play and self’. In terms of  this practice, I have learned how to express yourself.  As a conclusion, I think I have found what I think is the most authentic way, and this practice gives me the opportunity to reexamine myself.
