Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

In this week, we were continuing to learn story telling. We watched some animation films which have a good structure of storytelling. By discussing around these films, we have looked for their acts and plot points to learn how can acts and plots contribute to a story.

The traditional three acts include three parts:

Act 1 – Setup: Exposition, Inciting incident, Plot 1

Act 2 – Confrontation: Rising action, Mid point, Plot point 2

Act 3 – Resolution: Pre climax, Climax, Denouement

In class, our group picked the idea “An ice block is in love with a candle” as a topic to develop. I produced a flow chart to learn about how to develop this story. The core of the story is that ice block wants to be close with candle but will be melted by candle’s fire. To be together, ice block will change form to water, or the candle must go out its fire. Either of the method will need ice block or candle to change themselves to be with each other. An animation would be good way to present this story. The first act would be describing the ice block and the candle fall in love. First plot is ice block becomes melt. The second act is that ice block and candle try to find a way to stop melt but will not success. The second plot point is that the candle does not want the ice block melt and keep away from ice block. The final act will be the candle goes out its fire to be with ice block.

Some interesting comics about ice cube which produced by cubemelt on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/cubemelt/ provided me a lot of ideas.

By developing this story, I reflect that a good structure of storytelling is formed by carefully arranged acts and plots. A reasonable setting of acts and plots will be benefit to ensure that every start and end with a clear purpose and direction.
