Master Of Animation, Games & Interactivity

This week we focused on telling a story through a character, location and an interaction. My focus was to use metaphor and semiotics to drive the story telling. By using symbolism—the puddle with a hat in it— I also tried to show that the witch was afraid the water would melt her. I chose to create a storyboard as it allowed me to create a short gif and get a feeling of how the animation would flow.

Visual inspiration was taken from Cloud Cover (Svärling 2011), which we watched in class as the drawings convey a great deal without becoming complex.

I considered having the witch melt, but ultimately decided it would be more interesting if she survived and was able to overcome her fears. By jumping into the pool at the end, she is showing she has let go and is now free of them.
