For this week’s work, I am creating a mind-map about the ‘What if’ themed premise done in Week 2. “What if Earth was just a machine and there were creatures beneath the surface driving it around the sun”. This mind-map lays out the ideas that I can pursue depending on what medium I choose.
I can view this idea being played out in a variety of mediums. It can be produced as a linear story animation, where the human world discovers the creatures living beneath the surface and they try to live in harmony. It can also be produced as a game, where you play as the creatures and try to hide from the humans while fulfilling your duties.
This kind of ‘what if’ theme can be seen in a lot of mainstream movies and games. For example, all Marvel and DC movies where the possibility of superheroes are discussed, movies like Star Trek and Star Wars, where the theme of space exploration is shown. Games like Dragon Age, which explores the idea of dragons existing or Pokémon, which explores the idea of little creatures that we can train and hang out with.
By putting down my thoughts on this mind-map, I can play with different ideas that can help develop a world for the game or come up with a story or a location for the linear animation.
